No. Your Tax File Number is permanent. It does not expire, it does not change when your visa changes, and you do not need to apply for a new one when you return to Australia on a second working holiday visa. The same TFN you were issued the first time is the one you use for every subsequent visit.
Where to find your TFN if you cannot remember it
If you kept the original letter the ATO sent you, your TFN will be on it. If you set up a myGov account during your first visit and linked it to the ATO, you can log back in and find your TFN there. You can also check any payslips, group certificates, or tax return documents from your first visit, as your TFN is usually printed on those.
If none of those options work, you can contact the ATO directly by phone and request your TFN. You will need to verify your identity using your passport details and other personal information.
What you do need to do when you start work again
Even though your TFN is the same, you still need to provide it to each new employer you work for along with a completed Tax File Number Declaration form. Your TFN being on record with a previous employer does not carry over to a new one. Each employer needs their own declaration form on file to apply the correct tax rate to your wages.
What about your superannuation from your first visit
If you had superannuation contributions made during your first visit and you withdrew them when you left Australia using the DASP process, that account was effectively closed. Any new super contributions from your second visit will go into a new fund. If you did not withdraw your super from your first visit, those funds may still be sitting there. See our guide on finding lost or unclaimed super for more on how to locate them.
Lodging a tax return for your return visit
Your tax obligations work exactly the same way on your second visit. At the end of the financial year, you need to lodge a tax return with the ATO covering any income earned during that year. The same 15% working holiday maker rate applies to your earnings, provided you have provided your TFN to your employers.

What is a TFN and why do you need one in Australia?
A Tax File Number is the first thing you need when you start working in Australia. Without one, your employer must withhold nearly half your pay.
