How long does a DASP application take to process?

Most DASP applications are processed within 28 days. Here is what affects the timeline and what to do if yours is taking longer.

Most DASP applications are processed and paid within 28 days of submission. In many cases, the process is faster, particularly if your details are straightforward and your super fund has all the information they need to verify your identity and membership.

What happens after you submit

Once you submit your DASP application through the ATO's online system, the ATO verifies your visa and residency information and then forwards the application to your super fund. The fund then processes it from their end, verifying your membership details and calculating the payable amount. Once both sides have completed their checks, the payment is released to the bank account you nominated.

What can cause delays

The most common causes of delay are discrepancies in your personal details. If the name on your application does not exactly match the name the super fund holds on record, or if your address or date of birth is recorded differently, the fund may need to contact you to clarify. Make sure all the details you enter in your application match what your employer submitted to the fund when they set up your account.

Another common cause of delay is applying before your visa has expired or been cancelled. DASP applications submitted while a valid working holiday visa is still active will generally be rejected. Make sure you apply after your visa has expired.

What to do if 28 days have passed

If more than 28 days have passed since you submitted and you have not received payment or heard from the ATO, contact the ATO directly with your application reference number. They can check the status and identify where the application is in the process. If the delay is on the fund's side, the ATO can follow up on your behalf.

Applying for multiple funds

If you had super in more than one fund and have applied for each separately, the timelines for each application are independent. One may be processed faster than another depending on the fund. Keep track of each reference number separately.
